What matters most to God
By Robert Prater on January 8, 2026
Scripture: Colossians 2:6–7 (NIV) — “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
My schedule is usually full every day, with both planned and unexpected things that arise and need my attention. Amidst all of life, it is essential not to get sidetracked but to remain centered through everything.
In the busyness of life—deadlines, routines, and distractions—it’s easy to forget what truly matters. But Scripture reminds us to remember the foundation of our lives: Jesus Christ.
Staying rooted in Christ
Faith isn’t just a moment; it’s a daily journey. A life rooted in Jesus means choosing Him over fear, over pride, over self. It’s recalling what He has done—His love shown on the cross, His victory in the resurrection, and His Spirit now living within us.
When we lose sight of Him, we begin to measure worth by things that fade—success, popularity, and possessions. But when we recall our faith, we remember our true identity: loved, chosen, and redeemed.
Praying before the start of each day is essential for our spiritual health, allowing us to take a deep spiritual breath and be reminded of who we are and whose we are. This allows us to step back from the busyness of life and remember that all that we have is of God and for God, and that we constantly keep our focus on Jesus.
When we have lost that focus, in these quiet moments of a new day, we can say and pray, “Lord, bring me back to the center of your will – that I will see and know what matters most.”
May we begin each day in the new year by pausing to remember that Jesus is enough. Your faith in Him is your anchor, your peace, and your hope.
Our 2026 theme
This year at the Mannford Church of Christ, we are excited about our congregational theme for 2026, “What Matters Most.” We’ll focus on the following foundational truths:
- Believe what matters most
- Live what matters most
- Love what matters most
- Share what matters most
- Theme Verses: Philippians 1:9-11; Acts 20:24
Together, we’ll discover that what matters most in life is living in relationship with the living Christ. That brings a change in our priorities, which will cause us to live from our spiritual center.
Join us at Mannford Church of Christ
We invite you to join us at the Mannford church to explore these themes and worship with us. On Sundays, Bible study is held at 9:30 a.m., and worship is at 10:30 a.m. We also have a midweek Bible study at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays.
Mannford Church of Christ offers a welcoming sense of community, a support system, and the love of God through a scripture-based approach to those from all walks of life.
